Smithers Island


Smithers Island (52˚46'00" 129˚04'00" Entrance to Helmcken Inlet, E side of Laredo Channel, SW side of Princess Royal I). Frederick Ramon Smithers (1923–2006) was a student draftsman in the Victoria office of the Canadian Hydrographic Service when this feature was named in 1944. He was born at Vancouver and grew up in W Vancouver, joining the CHS as a cartographer in 1940. He also worked for Boeing Aircraft in Vancouver during WWII.
