Sluggett Point


Sluggett Point (48˚35'00" 123˚28'00" Brentwood Bay, W side of Saanich Peninsula, NW of Victoria). John (1829–1909) and Fanny Sluggett (1833–1904, née Downs), both from Devon, England, immigrated to Ont in 1855. They had seven children there, and John became a successful farmer at Elderslie. He came to BC in 1875—lured, apparently, by glowing reports of the Pacific coast—and bought about 300 ha of land beside Brentwood Bay (qv). The rest of the family travelled W the following year....
