Sheringham Point


Sheringham Point (48˚23'00" 123˚55'00" W side of Orveas Bay, N side of Juan de Fuca Str, SW end of Vancouver I). Named in 1846 by Capt Henry Kellett of HMS Herald, who made an early survey of this region, after a compatriot of his, fellow RN surveyor William Louis Sheringham (d 1873). He entered the navy in 1808, was a cdr at the time Kellett was in this area, and eventually attained the rank of vice adm, retired, in 1871.
