Portlock Point


Portlock Point (48˚50'00" 123˚21'00" E side of Prevost I, Swanson Channel, W of Mayne I, Gulf Is). Nathaniel Portlock (1749–1817), a native of Virginia, was an early fur trader on the Pacific coast. He joined the RN in 1771 and served as a master’s mate aboard HMS Discovery on Capt James Cook’s third voyage, 1776–80, during which many crew members acquired sea otter furs at Nootka Sd and sold them for great profit in China.
