Portage Cove


Portage Cove (50˚05'00" 124˚44'00" NE end of Gifford Peninsula, SE side of Desolation Sd, NW of Powell R). The Sliammon First Nation name for the flat isthmus at the head of this cove is Kígíyin, meaning “short crossing from one bay to another.” It was once a popular portage route for canoes, as it eliminated a much longer paddle around Gifford Peninsula.
