Pitt Island


Pitt Island (53˚30'00" 129˚47'00" Between Banks I and McCauley I and the BC mainland, S of Prince Rupert), Pitt Point (53˚53'00" 130˚06'00" NE end of Pitt I). In 1792, Joseph Whidbey, master of HMS Discovery, made a long exploratory journey with the ship’s boats from Nepean Sd via Grenville Channel to Chatham Sd and back. Upon his return, Capt George Vancouver gave the name Pitt’s Archipelago to the group of islands that now includes Pitt, McCauley, Porcher and their smaller outliers....
