Peter Cove

Peter Cove (48˚44'00" 123˚14'00" S end of N Pender I, Gulf Is). Named in 1859 by Capt George Richards, of the RN survey vessel Plumper, after Assistant Surgeon Peter William Wallace, who was in charge of the Esquimalt naval hospital, 1857–65. See Wallace Point. During the Prohibition era, the cove became a favoured spot for smugglers to transfer liquor to small, fast US boats for the run across the border. Several incidents of hijacking apparently occurred at this site.
