Penelope Point


Penelope Point (51˚48'00" 127˚23'00" E side of Moses Inlet, N of Nelson Narrows, Rivers Inlet, SE of Bella Bella). British aristocrat Penelope Atkins (d 1795) married George Pitt, the 1st Baron Rivers (1722–1803), after whom Capt George Vancouver named Rivers Inlet (qv). She was the daughter of Sir Henry Atkins, 4th baronet of Clapham in Surrey. The point was named by the hydrographic service in 1947, in association with Rivers Inlet.
