Pantoja Islands


Pantoja Islands (49˚36'00" 126˚34'00" Part of the Spanish Pilot Group, SW of Bligh I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Juan Pantoja y Arriaga was a Spanish naval officer who served on the Pacific coast in the late 18th century. He first sailed off BC in 1779 as 2nd pilot of the Princesa, under Ignacio de Arteaga. On this early expedition, Arteaga was accompanied by Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra in the Favorita and spent much time exploring SE Alaska, Prince William Sd and Cook Inlet....
