Orveas Bay


Orveas Bay (48˚22'00" 123˚52'00" SW side of Vancouver I, between Sooke Bay and Sheringham Point). According to the PNW cartography expert Henry Wagner, Spanish naval officer Manuel Quimper gave the name Ensenada de Orbea to a feature at or near this location in 1790, while making the first survey of Juan de Fuca Str—though the name does not appear on the important 1790 charts prepared by Gonzales López de Haro, Quimper’s 1st officer.
