Odegaard Rocks


Odegaard Rocks (52˚09'00" 127˚31'00" W of Mapalaklenk Point and Kwatna Inlet, S side of Burke Channel, E of Bella Bella). Hans Odegaard (1865–1949) was one of the original Norwegian settlers to colonize the Bella Coola valley, pre-empting land there in 1894 and receiving a Crown grant in 1901. He married 23-year-old Sirianna Gorden at Bella Coola in 1904. Sirianna died at Ocean Falls in 1919, Hans at Bella Coola; several of their descendants continue to live in the region.
