Nichol Island


Nichol Island (53˚04'00" 129˚43'00" Off SW side of Trutch I, Estevan Group, SE of Banks I). Walter Cameron Nichol (1866–1928) was lt gov of BC, 1920–26. He was born in Ont and became a successful journalist at the Hamilton Spectator in the 1880s, then moved to Toronto in 1887 and started the original Saturday Night magazine, which lasted only one issue. Ten years later, he and his wife travelled to the Kootenays and then to Victoria, where he landed a job editing the weekly Province...
