Nanakwa Shoal

Nanakwa Shoal (53˚50'00" 128˚50'00" W of Coste I, Douglas Channel, S of Kitimat). Named in 1953 after the Kitimat area’s first newspaper, called Na-na-kwa (“Dawn on the Pacific Coast”) and published four times a year (1893–1906) by Rev George Raley on the Kitamaat Mission’s primitive printing press. This monthly bulletin or newsletter carried mission tracts and appeals mixed in with local news.
