Munro Island


Munro Island (52˚26'00" 129˚00'00" S of Aristazabal I). Named in 1927 after Alexander Munro (1824–1911), the last HBC chief factor in Victoria. He was a native of Tain, Scotland, and came to Victoria in 1857. His wife, Jane Urquhart (1825–1914), and children joined him a year later. Munro entered HBC service as a clerk in 1861 and was promoted to factor in 1872 and chief factor two years later.
