Moos Islet


Moos Islet (49˚58'00" 127˚19'00" One of the Barrier Is, SW of Union I, Kyuquot Sd, NW side of Vancouver I). Capt Nils Moos (b 1851) was born in Denmark and became a seaman as a boy, then immigrated to the PNW about 1869 and worked initially on the Surprise, one of the first sealers at Victoria. His personal name can also be found spelled Nels, Niels and Neils. He spent 20 years on the sealing schooners, serving as master or mate of the Alert, Favorite, Dolphin, Thornton, Kate and Onward...
