Merilia Passage


Merilia Passage (52˚23'00" 128˚29'00" Between Dowager I and the Gaudin Is, Milbanke Sd, NW of Bella Bella). Isabella Merilia (1807–85)—whose surname has also been identified as Melville or, more commonly, Mainville—entered into marriage in 1822 with HBC clerk Charles Ross (c 1794–1844, see Ross Bay). She grew up at the fur-trading post of Lac La Pluie (Rainy Lk), Ont, daughter of a European father and an Ojibway mother. Isabella accompanied Ross to more than a dozen different HBC...
