Matlset Narrows


Matlset Narrows (49˚14'00" 125˚48'00" Off NE side of Meares I, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Matlset, or Maalhsit, was a former Tla-o-qui-aht (Clayoquot) First Nation village once situated on the narrows. The name, which was adopted in 1947, means “cold water.” The narrows was formerly known as Race Narrows.
