Mamquam Blind Channel

Mamquam Blind Channel (49˚41'00" 123˚09'00" Near mouth of Squamish R, N end of Howe Sd, N of Vancouver). This Skxwúmish (Squamish) First Nation word may be onomatopoeic—formed from a sound associated with what is named. Traditional sources suggest that it imitates or echoes the murmur of the smooth-running lower stretches of the Mamquam R, which joins the Squamish R near the head of Howe Sd. Nearby Mamquam Icefield, Mamquam Lk and Mamquam Mtn are all named after the river.
