Loughborough Inlet


Loughborough Inlet (50˚31'00" 125˚32'00" N of Johnstone Str and W Thurlow I, between Knight Inlet and Bute Inlet). Named by Capt George Vancouver in 1792 after Alexander Wedderburn, 1st Baron Loughborough (1733–1805). A Scottish lawyer and friend of the powerful Earl of Bute, Wedderburn was called to the English bar in 1757 and engaged the noted actors Thomas Sheridan and Charles Macklin to give him elocution lessons.
