Little Shell Island

Little Shell Island (48˚40'00" 123˚22'00" One of the Little Group, S of Coal I, E of N end of Saanich Peninsula, N of Victoria). This island and neighbouring Ker I, which was formerly known as Shell I, were named for the large deposits of shell on the beaches. When Shell I was renamed, the hydrographic service saw no reason to also change Little Shell I, as it was part of the Little Group and its name was still appropriately descriptive.
