Lewis Bay

Lewis Bay (48˚41'00" 123˚23'00" W side of Coal I, just E of N end of Saanich Peninsula, N of Victoria). Capt Frederick E Lewis (1887–1963), a native of Tarrytown, NY, came to Canada from California in 1939 and purchased Coal I, where he built a luxurious estate. He was active in marine and yachting circles and took a keen interest in search-and-rescue work. Nearby Cap Rks are also named for him, and Stranger Passage (qv) is named after one of his yachts.
