Kingcome Inlet


Kingcome Inlet (50˚55'00" 126˚20'00" NE of the E end of Queen Charlotte Str, W of Knight Inlet). Rear Adm John Kingcome (d 1871), with HMS Sutlej as his flagship, was cdr-in-chief of the RN’s Pacific Station, 1862–64. Earlier in his career he had commanded the troopships Belleisle (1841–46) and Simoom (1853). Kingcome Inlet—and nearby Sutlej Channel, Belleisle Sd and Simoom Sd—were all named by surveyor Lt Daniel Pender about 1864 to honour the region’s chief military officer. The...
