Keld Point


Keld Point (53˚14'00" 129˚22'00" S tip of Fin I, Squally Channel, N of Caamaño Sd). Thomas Keld was a boatswain aboard HMS Discovery on Capt George Vancouver’s expedition to the PNW coast. He apparently suffered such a severe attack of dysentery at Cape Town in 1791 that his capt transferred him to a homeward-bound vessel, one of four seamen “whose constitutions seemed unequal to the service in which they had engaged.” Vancouver may have been glad to get rid of Keld, as he had punished...
