Kaisun Harbour


Kaisun Harbour (53˚02'00" 132˚28'00" N side of Englefield Bay, entrance to Inskip Channel, NW side of Moresby I, QCI). Named for Qays’un, or “Sea Lion Place,” an ancient Haida village once located on the harbour. In 1840, HBC official John Work counted 18 houses and 329 people at this important outer-coast community. The village was abandoned about 1875, though the remains of house poles could still be seen in the early 2000s. A landslide destroyed part of the site in the mid-1980s....
