Juan Perez Sound


Juan Perez Sound (52˚30'00" 131˚25'00" Off E side of Moresby I, QCI). Spanish naval officer Juan José Pérez Hernandez (c 1725–75) was the first European explorer known to have seen the BC coast. Born at Majorca, he came to San Blas, Mexico, in 1767 and worked on the galleons that plied between Manila and Mexico. Pérez also took part in the 1769 effort to colonize California.
