Josephine Flat


Josephine Flat (50˚07'00" 125˚22'00" S of Menzies Bay, just NW of Campbell R). Named in 1895 after the heroine of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera HMS Pinafore. The officers of HMS Nymphe, just before re-surveying Menzies Bay, had apparently seen a production of this musical at Nanaimo. So taken were they with the young actress playing the part of Josephine that they decided to honour her with a geographical name. W
