Izard Point


Izard Point (50˚08'00" 127˚31'00" E entrance to Ououkinsh Inlet, Checleset Bay, NW side of Vancouver I). Lt (Engineer) Theodore Douglas Izard, of Victoria, was killed in action aboard HMCS Athabaskan on Apr 29, 1944, aged 26. The RCN destroyer was hit by a torpedo and sank, with the loss of 111 lives, during an engagement with four German destroyers off the coast of France. Izard’s name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial. Nearby Theodore Point is also named for him.
