Iroquois Island


Iroquois Island (52˚02'00" 128˚19'00" Queens Sd, SW of Bella Bella). The hydrographic service bestowed numerous war-related place names in 1944, including this one. HMCS Iroquois was a Tribal-class destroyer (the island is part of the Tribal Group), launched in 1941 but not really operational, due to construction and design flaws, until 1943. The ship saw convoy duty on the Gibraltar and Murmansk runs that year and was involved in numerous actions off the French coast in 1944. In 1952–54...
