Irby Point


Irby Point (49Ėš31'00" 123Ėš18'00" S end of Anvil I, Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver). In 1794, Midshipman Frederick Paul Irby (1779ā€“1844) of HMS Montagu was present at the English Channel victory known as the Glorious First of June. As capt of the frigate Amelia from 1807 to 1813 he gained renown for a bloody but inconclusive action against Lā€™Arethuse, a French frigate. Irby was made a CB in 1831 and became a rear adm in 1837.
