Insley Rock


Insley Rock (52˚15'00" 128˚11'00" E of Dearth I, Seaforth Channel, NW of Bella Bella). Master mariner Asbury Insley (1829–98), born in Delaware, owned and operated numerous vessels on BC’s coastal and inland waters. He was working on the Fraser R as early as 1858 and later became a skipper for the Canadian Pacific Navigation Co. Insley’s career suffered a setback in 1885 when the R P Rithet, under his command, collided with and sank the Enterprise, another CPN vessel, off Cadboro Point....
