Hjorth Bay


Hjorth Bay (50˚11'00" 125˚08'00" W side of Read I, N end of Str of Georgia). Nils Christian Hjorth (1850–1936) was a peripatetic Norwegian seaman who jumped ship in Burrard Inlet, most likely in the 1870s, and lived at first as a fisherman. He is probably the same man who took up land in Surrey in 1885 and gave his name to Hjorth Rd, or 104 Ave (though this Surrey pioneer is sometimes referred to as Hans Christian Hjorth).
