Heathorn Bay


Heathorn Bay (52˚50'21" 128˚08'05" N end of Mathieson Channel, N of Bella Bella). Leading Stoker Arthur John Heathorn of Vancouver died in action on Sept 29, 1942, aged 21. He was serving aboard HMS Somali, a Tribal-class destroyer that was torpedoed by a U-boat while on convoy duty to Murmansk, in N Russia, and later sank while being towed to Iceland. His name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial.
