Guaquina Point


Guaquina Point (49˚39'00" 126˚06'00" S side of Muchalat Inlet, S of mouth of Gold R, W Vancouver I). This name recalls the fact that Muchalat Inlet was formerly known as Guaquina Arm. The derivation of Guaquina is uncertain. According to Fr Augustin Brabant, pioneer Roman Catholic missionary and historian, it is an adaptation of the name of a celebrated Muchalaht First Nation woman.
