Griffon Point


Griffon Point (53˚49'00" 129˚57'00" S entrance to Watts Narrows, Baker Inlet, opposite NE Pitt I). HMS Griffon, a 700-tonne steam-powered gunship, was the first command of Cdr Robert Watts Davies, who had served as a midshipman on the RN’s Pacific Station, 1860–62. The vessel was launched in 1876 and posted to the N America Station, the E Indies and the E African coast, where it was involved in the suppression of the slave trade. See also Watts Narrows.
