Greig Island


Greig Island (48˚41'00" 123˚20'00" E of Coal I, off NE end of Saanich Peninsula, N of Victoria). A native of the Orkney Is, John Greig (1825–92) entered HBC service in 1844. At Ft Colville in the US he met his future wife, Margaret Goudie (1830–1914), daughter of HBC employee James Goudie and his First Nation wife, Catherine. The Greig family came to BC about 1852 and acquired land at Thetis Lk near Colwood, where John farmed, became a well-known fiddler and worked as a lime burner,...
