Grant Rocks


Grant Rocks (48˚21'00" 123˚42'00" Sooke Inlet, E of Whiffin Spit, S end of Vancouver I). Capt Walter Colquhoun Grant (1822–61), from Edinburgh, was the earliest colonist on Vancouver I who was not directly associated with the HBC. He sent eight settlers ahead of him, in 1848, to clear farmland in the Sooke area, and arrived himself the following year.
