Franklin River


Franklin River (49˚06'00" 124˚49'00" Flows W into Sproat Narrows, Alberni Inlet, S of Port Alberni, Vancouver I). This feature, originally called Franklin’s R, was named in 1864 by members of the Vancouver I Exploring Expedition after Selim Franklin (1814–84). He and his brothers Lumley (Victoria’s second mayor; d 1873) and Edward were members of a Jewish banking family from Liverpool who settled in California in 1849.
