Finlayson Island


Finlayson Island (54˚32'00" 130˚28'00" S of entrance to Port Simpson, NW of Prince Rupert). Duncan Finlayson (c 1796–1862), from Scotland, joined the HBC in 1815 and worked as a supervisor in the Peace R and Red R districts in the 1820s. He was a chief factor on the PNW coast, 1831–37, under Dr John McLoughlin, with whom he did not get along. Finlayson improved coastal trade and founded Ft McLoughlin on the central BC coast in 1833.
