Ekins Point


Ekins Point (49˚32'00" 123˚23'00" N end of Gambier I, Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver). Named by Capt George Richards in 1861, in association with the nearby Defence Is, after Charles Ekins (1768–1855), capt of HMS Defence in 1806–11. His first command was HMS Ferret, in 1795; he also commanded HMS Echo, Amphitrite and Superb, and was wounded aboard the latter at the 1816 bombardment of Algiers.
