Ecoole


Ecoole (48˚58'00" 125˚03'30" S side of Seddall I, Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). According to Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation writer and artist George Clutesi, the name of this ancient fishing village means “where vegetation reaches the water’s edge.” A different translation from the Nuu-chah-nulth is “bushes on a hill.” Capt James Warren, a well-known sealer, operated a trading post there in the 19th century.
