Burrowes Island


Burrowes Island (54˚19'00" 130˚22'00" Entrance to Russell Arm, Prince Rupert Hbr). Gilbert Burrowes was a leveller with the 1906 GTP party that surveyed Prince Rupert for the railroad. (A leveller used an optical instrument with a spirit level to measure grades and elevations.) The name was adopted by the Geographic Board of Canada in 1917.
