Brackman Island


Brackman Island (48˚43'00" 123˚23'00" W of Portland I, N of Sidney, Gulf Is). After participating in the Cariboo gold rush, Henry Brackman (1832–1903) built a a small gristmill on Tsehum Hbr (formerly Shoal Bay) near Sidney in 1878. Four years later, David Russell Ker (see Ker I) became a partner, and in the 1890s the Brackman-Ker Milling Co built a bigger mill at the entrance to Victoria Hbr and produced flour and all kinds of animal feeds.
