Birnie Island


Birnie Island (54˚35'46" 130˚27'34" Entrance to Port Simpson, N of Prince Rupert). James Birnie (c 1800–64), born at Aberdeen, Scotland, came to Canada in 1816. Two years later he joined the NWC as a clerk at Ft Spokane, and after that company amalgamated with the HBC in 1821, he was sent to Ft George (now Astoria) on the Pacific coast.
