Bedford Island


Bedford Island (53˚57'00" 130˚09'00" One of the Gibson Group, N entrance to Grenville Channel, S of Prince Rupert). William Orlebar Bedford, born in Ireland about 1849, was on the RN’s Pacific Station, based at Esquimalt, 1869–72. At that time he was assistant paymaster aboard HMS Scylla, under Capt Frederick A Herbert. He became chief paymaster in 1905. Named in 1869 by Lt Daniel Pender on the Beaver. W
