Atkinson Island

Atkinson Island (50 ̊53'00" 126 ̊51'00" N side of N Broughton I, NE of Port McNeill). Thomas Hall Atkinson was assistant surgeon aboard HMS Sutlej, the flagship of Rear Adm Joseph Denman, who was cdr-in-chief of the RN’s Pacific Station, 1864–66, and based at Esquimalt. Atkinson assisted with the surveying efforts on the BC coast by becoming the acting surgeon on the hired vessel Beaver, under Lt Daniel Pender, in the late 1860s.
