Aiskew Island

Aiskew Island, Aiskew Point (55˚23'00" 129˚46'00" W side of Observatory Inlet, S of Alice Arm). Named in 1922 after Sir Thomas Aiskew Larcom (1801–79), who was the father of RN officer Thomas Henry Larcom, who served on the BC coast (see Larcom I). Trained as a military surveyor, Sir Thomas occupied a number of significant roles in the British administration of Ireland, becoming permanent undersecretary (1853–68), and was widely respected for his impartiality and competence.
