Vernon Preparatory School

VERNON PREPARATORY SCHOOL was a private school for boys founded in 1914 by Austin C. Mackie, an English-born ANGLICAN cleric, at COLDSTREAM outside VERNON. It was a boarding school, intended to prepare boys for British public school and to mould them into model English gentlemen. Mackie remained head until 1946. The school continued under his main successor, Charles Twite, from 1948 to 1965, but closed in 1972. See also EDUCATION, PRIVATE.
