Uchuck


UCHUCK ("healing waters") is the name of a series of supply boats that has operated on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND since about 1930. The original Uchuck was built in 1928 and used as a cannery tender, then as a freight vessel in BARKLEY SOUND. Capt Richard Porritt built the Uchuck No 1 in 1941, using it to provide regular passenger and freight service between PORT ALBERNI and Barkley Sound.
