Twin Islands

TWIN ISLANDS are 2 small islets, about 80 ha in area when they are joined at low tide, located north of POWELL RIVER near the entrance to DESOLATION SOUND. They were owned from 1961 by Max Markgraf von Baden, a German aristocrat and nephew of Prince Philip. The Prince and Queen Elizabeth stayed at the island's palatial log lodge on 2 occasions. The heavily timbered islands were sold in 1997 and the new owner began LOGGING them. A subsequent sale halted the process.
