Squid


SQUID is a MOLLUSC of the class Cephalopoda, which includes the OCTOPUS, cuttlefish and nautilus (the latter 2 do not occur in BC waters). Unlike the octopus, which has 8 tentacles, the squid typically has 10 tentacles, 2 of which are specialized for breeding. The animal can jet backwards at great speeds and squirt a black inky substance into the water, forming a cloud to obscure it in order to avoid predators. The squid has a horny beak and feeds on small FISH, SHRIMP and other crustaceans....
